Boys Don't Play With Barbies

No Barbies, no crying, and absolutely no dresses. We are definitely forgetting a couple “rules” but you catch our drift. Join us for the final event of Sex Week, a panel on how masculinity impacts us in the 21st century (bios below). Outdated social norms be damned.

Jacob Caponi

Jacob is a researcher who seeks to understand who is able to commit violence, why violence is committed, and the lasting effects of violence on communities. He was previously a Relationship Education and Violence Prevention student coordinator in the Student Wellness Center, community engagement intern at Equitas Health, and researcher at Hittle House (a residential tertiary prevention program for adolescent boys overcoming trauma). Jacob is currently a researcher on projects examining gender and genocide as well as help seeking behaviors for those experiencing multi-dimensional violence such as IPV, DV, poverty, racism, and xenophobia. Jacob also co-leads a Think Tank in Ohio Reformatory for Women addressing issues of gender based violence, trauma informed care, and best practices for reentry and reintegration for survivors and perpetrators of violence.

Jeff Puster

Jeff Puster is the Campus-based Prevention Coordinator for the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio. His role is to work with colleges in Franklin County by assisting with existing programs, or introducing new programs to prevent sexual violence.  He has been with SARNCO less than 1 year, but prior worked for several years with families affected by intimate partner violence, who were participating in supervised visits.

Katherine Miller

Katherine Miller is a Master of Social Work student at Ohio State. Her experience includes working with the Prevention Team at the Ohio Domestic Violence Network to engage men in gender-based violence prevention and volunteering as a hospital advocate with the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio.

Lizzie Howald

HeForShe at OSU is a college chapter of the UN Women campaign for global gender equality. It is our belief that women's (and all gender identities) rights are basic human rights - and that it is the responsibility of everyone to secure this. Lizzie Howald is a senior studying arts management and studio art. She has been the President of HeForShe at OSU for two years. Her passion for gender equality is focused on equity in the arts, but she is ready to get fired up about any gender-based issue you can name.
